Carol Jorgensen Huston, MSN, MPA, DPA

Carol Jorgensen Huston, RN, MSN, DPA, is a professor of nursing at California State University, Chico as well as Western University of Health Science. She was named the Outstanding Teacher for California State University for 2001/2002. Dr. Huston is the co-author of numerous nursing textbooks including Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing and Management Decision Making for Nurses (a 1993 AJN Book of the Year). She has also published widely in journals such as RN, AJN, Nursing, Nursing Outlook, Journal of Nursing Education and serves as a manuscript reviewer for AJN and Image, Journal of Nursing Scholarship.

Professional affiliations include ANA-California and Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing. Dr. Huston holds the designation of "Distinguished Lecturer" by Sigma Theta Tau International, and served as the Region 1 Coordinator of Sigma Theta Tau from 1999-2001. In November 2001, she was elected to a four year term for the Board of Directors for Sigma Theta Tau, As a Director, she is responsible for strategic planning, program implementation, and fiduciary oversight of 128,000 members in over 400 chapters, in 58 countries. Dr. Huston is also a recognized N-STAT (Nurse's strategic action team) leader for ANA-California.

Dr. Huston is a frequent speaker at nursing workshops and conferences throughout the United States. Her research interests include mentoring, outcomes measurement, quality health care, and the impact of staffing mix on quality of care.
